As an early adapter i installed the new Mac OS Snow Leopard the day after it was released. In the beginning everything looked fine until the new version shows me a upgrade blocker:
If i connect to my Samba shares on my Debian box, the Finder lists the content really slow or can’t list the files at all. Sometimes the Finder freezes and i have to relaunch it. Also my Mac Pro wasn’t able to shutdown properly because it couldn’t unmount the shares.
After three days of googling (there are another samba reladed bugs), trial & erroring and thinking about going back to Mac OS X 10.5, i finally found a solution, Mac OS X 10.6 doesn’t like it if you have
veto files = /.DS_Store/
in your smb.conf. Disable it, restart samba and everything works like it should. Too bad that Mac OS now starts again to trash out his .DS_Store files to my network shares
Hope Apple fixes this soon, version 10.6.1 is on the way.
Now it’s finally true: The new Finder is faster!
